US Virgin Islands – May 25, 2019

My journey begins one month before my 55th birthday. An invitation came from a friend from High School to join her at her home in the Virgin Islands. I spent 9 days decompressing and re-evaluating my life and the year ahead. I am at a cross roads. I am single, my children are all grown and my last child returns to college in September. I have an explorer’s heart and have desired to travel the world as long as I can remember.

I spent my mornings kayaking in the bay and snorkeling along the reef from the dock. What a way to begin the day!
On my morning walks, I discovered that the island was filled with magnificent flowers, plants and trees at every turn.
I tried new foods, met new people and even learned to turn bowls from clay! I have definitely found a new hobby.

This glaze is so beautiful!
Together, my friend and I created a life plan for me for the coming year. I have decided to be bold. I am going to be fearless and live my dream. I am going to take a year and travel the world while working remotely!

Somehow, everything makes sense with this view while listening to the waves wash in and out against the shore. I learned that my faith anchors me and gives me purpose and direction. My family provides love and support and encouragement. I have spent 37 years raising amazing children and serving in my community. I am going to go live my dream – take time to nurture and heal myself.

That is what I need more of – “The don’t hurry” (minus the rum)! I’m off to plan my next year – lots to do. It feels wonderful to have renewed hope and a clear direction.

One the first day of my Freshman year in High School, I walked into my journalism class and my teacher handed me a camera and said, “You are going to be the school’s photographer.” My first thought was “Absolutely NO WAY! I am just here to write for the newspaper.” I was shy and insecure… Read more

City Of A Thousand Towers
November 2019 As a young woman, I remember listening to my grandmother talk about her trip to Prague. She filled my impressionable, adventurous mind with images of places and sites I had never even imagined. As I stood on Charles Bridge, looking over this lovely city, it was as if my grandmother were standing… Read more
